Day 1: Rob & Diane's
Big kids, big breakfast.
So the strategy for Rob and Diane this Sunday was bagels. And fruit. And eggs. High carb, yes, but then it leaves the kids with high energy for helping with yard work.
A light lunch keeps them going.
Dinner time was a tofu dish with a spectacular crunch due to a coating of corn starch before frying. The trick to drying the tofu beforehand? The microwave. 4 and half minutes per block.
Day 2: Dave's place
Dave is a regular weightlifter and his diet has to support his muscle building. Beef/Chicken/Fish are the primary sources of protein this day.
Day 3: Hanging out with Florence
Florence is a spry 83 year old who eats light meals for breakfast and lunch. Dinner is a big heavier. She showed us how to make a killer blackening mix for mahi.
Day 4: On campus
Kevin is a student at NC State. After breakfast (a Jimmy Dean's biscuit and Cheetos) we walked the campus a bit.
Day 5: With Kathy, software engineering extraordinaire
It would appear from the start of her day that Kathy is a healthy eater .... but the night ended with a large pizza. Part of this has to do with intense focus during the day for her work in software engineering. Heavy meals early in the morning do not suit her well. But in the evening she really kicks back with a full meal to loosen up.
Day 6: Bob & Angie
If you were hoping for a flat out feast, you'll be sorely disappointed. Bob and Angie faithfully (in more ways than one) fast for two meals of the day. There's a health aspect to it, yes, but more important is their reverence to God.
Day 7: At the Abbey
We spent the day at the Abbey with 10 monks who live a consecrated life. They limit their diets drastically - no meat and very little fat. Today's meals began with porridge and fruit and then ended in the evening with bread (a dark rye) and red wine.
